Song Of The Day: John Otway – Bunsen Burner

I’m currently in the process of listening to every song on my iPod at work, in alphabetical order of song title, which means it’s like a gigantic jukebox with over 5,000 songs in total, but also means that you get to hear cover versions and original songs back to back, which is both a good and a bad thing.

There are times I question why a song is on the iPod as it’s chock-full of both mine and Michael’s songs, and usually I blame Michael if a song is random and rubbish. Today, while innocently ploughing through my to-do list, the below song came on and blew my mind. I don’t remember it being released in 2002, especially as it got to number 9 in the charts. It’s just fabulous. If you haven’t heard it, I highly recommend watching the video below, the live Top Of The Pops version is simply genius.

Song Of The Day – Cathy Davey – Little Red (live)

Michael introduced me to Cathy Davey when he watched the film The Disappearance of Alice Creed and her song Holy Moly was featured at the end. I do like Holy Moly, but I really love Little Red. It’s such a great song and I can’t wait to get the album it features on, The Nameless.

Cathy is an Irish singer-songwriter. She actually has three albums, the other two being Something Ilk and Tales of Silversleeve, and these are also on my to buy list!

Song Of The Day: Gloria Estefan – Get On Your Feet

I have been a big fan ever since I was a child. One of the first things I ever bought with my pocket money was her Homecoming Concert on VHS (because I was only 11 and this was in 1990!). I was watching a Gloria Estefan YouTube Mix when this came on, and it immediately took me back to childhood. Such a great weekend tune!

Song Of The Day: Ane Brun – One

Michael introduced me to this. He saw it on a documentary called Kennedy’s Nuclear Nightmare. Ane is from Norway and is a songwriter, guitarist and vocalist. She’s recorded eight albums since 2003 and I can’t wait to listen to more of her music 🙂

Song Of The Day: Julian Cope – World Shut Your Mouth

It’s Julian Cope’s birthday today (he’s 56!) and I have just listened to World Shut Your Mouth about 7 times on a loop. It’s one of my all time faves from 1986 when I was around 8 years old but already really into music (I had a cassette-playing boombox in my bedroom, get me!).

Song Of The Day: Rudimental – Waiting All Night ft. Ella Eyre

I think I’m on replay number 5 now. Love it! It’s such an inspirational video. No matter how bad things get, never give up!

The YouTube info says, “The official video for ‘Waiting All Night’ is the inspirational true life-story of San Francisco born BMX champion and actor – Kurt Yaeger, who became an amputee after an accident in 2006. All the characters in the clip are pro bmx’ers and the real friends of Kurt.”

Song Of The Day: Tich – Dumb

I’ve just been introduced to a song called Dumb by a new singer called Tich. It’s so so so catchy and I think it’ll be a big summer hit. Tich is trying to get to number 1 in the UK charts today so if you like it, you can download it from smarturl.it/dumb

Here’s the video:
